The end is nigh.

You should have brake checked it to see if it works properly

Ha. Tempting, but I'm 1000 miles from home and don't want to deal with the consequences if it didn't work.

The whole problem with these is decision making. Hit this or hit that, when one thing to us would be a no brainer, it may not be able to make the right decision. I think overall automated cars would save lives if people were used to it, but I think some people would die in situations a human would avoid. If you have to be ready and as alert as someone driving the car full time, I feel like it would be pretty exhausting waiting to take over in case you had to.

Awesome.
I remember seeing someone post on Facebook: “The future just cut me off.”
Then a picture of the self-driving Lexus changing lanes in front of him in traffic.

And Google was like "Nobody in Guadalajara will notice our Lexus if we put a sombrero on it."

Yeah I think it is going to take quite some to get that kind of decision making perfected, if ever. The “driver” of this particular one did appear to be actively driving when I saw it.

It’s not supposed to be hit this or that, it’s supposed to hit neither.

No, the big problem with testing these things has come out in things like, the vehicle can’t stop in time and must choose a path out of two. The big example is hit a shopping cart or a baby stroller. To a computer it is the same and hard to teach it what to do. We of course see something and can make that choice. In a more normal situation it might have to choose between driving off the road by a cliff or changing into head on traffic. If you start getting into situations that have happened in real life and apply it to the autonomous cars, it’s kind of worrisome.
